Seeded Rib SOCKS

With 3.75mm (US 5) dpns, cast on 48 (56, 64) sts, taking care not to twist, join to round, mark beg of round.

Change to 3.25mm (US 4) dpns.

K1, p1 rib for 14 (14, 16) rounds.

Change to 3.75mm (US 5) dpns.

Beg Main Rib

Round 1 - *K3, p1; rep from * to end.

Round 2 - *P1, k1, p2; rep from * to end.

Rep last 2 rounds until piece meas 21 (25, 28)cm/8 ¼ (9 ¾, 11)ins from beg.

HEEL

Rib first 12 (14, 16) sts of round, leave next 24 (28, 32) sts on hold for instep, slip rem 12 (14, 16) sts of round onto other end of heel dpn; there are now 24 (28, 32) sts on needle for heel.

Working back and forth over heel sts, beg with a p row, Stst for 17 (21, 25) rows and slipping first st of each row.

Turn Heel

NR (RS) – K15 (17, 19), k2tog, k1, turn, p8, p2tog-tbl, p1, turn, k9, k2tog, k1, turn, p10, p2tog-tbl, p1, turn; cont in this manner; working one more st each turn; until all sts are worked and 16 (18, 20) sts are on needle.

NRnd (RS) – K8 (9, 10) sts, place marker for beg of round, k rem 8 (9, 10) heel sts, pick up and k 10 (12, 14) sts evenly along side of heel, pm, rib across the 24 (28, 32) sts on hold for instep, pm, pick up and k10 (12, 14) sts up side of heel, k to marker – 60 (70, 80) sts. Beg of round is at centre back of heel.

SHAPE INSTEP

NRnd – K to first marker, rib 24 (28, 32) sts, k to end.

NRnd – k to 4 sts before first marker, k2tog, k2; rib to 2^nd marker, k2, skp, k to end – 58 (68, 78) sts.

Rep last 2 rounds 6 (7, 8) times more - 46 (54, 62) sts.

Cont straight (keeping upper 24 (28, 32) sts in rib as established and rem sts in Stst) until foot meas (from where sts were picked up along heel sides) 12 (16, 19)cm/4 ¾ (6 ¼, 7 ½)ins.

Work 1 more round and dec 2 sts evenly across rib section – 44 (52, 60) sts.
